Reviews
If you need to get through some larger diameter limbs without the weight of a chainsaw, this is the go-to. Teeth are very sharp and handle is a great length for two hands to draw blade with more force on larger limbs. No real downsides that I have found after more than a few years using this saw.
I have the 650, it's a real monster for cleaning up the lodgepole pine all over the trails in our Pasayten Wilderness. I can cut deadfall timber out all day with minimal fatigue compared to the one-handed Corona 19" and 21" orchard saws I used to use. I'm considering the 1000 now, there are trails on the west slope of the Cascades and Olympics with gargantuan trees down. It's a lot of money, but I have great tasks ahead and this is the right tool.
While a "chainsaw replacement" is a little too optimistic. This saw is still a really great and lightweight option, for cutting a lot of wood where you wouldn't want the weight or hassle of a chainsaw. I've used it to girdle large trees, prune branches above my head, and even on a couple of wildland fire assignments to clear woody debris without having to hike back to the engine to get the chainsaw. It's not cheap, but the quality is excellent like all Silky saws. I understand the need for the screw on the safety catch, but it is a little annoying to have to screw/unscrew it every time you want to fold or unfold the saw.
