Description

Forestry Suppliers Rhino Tool

Our version of the commonly modified “Rhino” Firefighting Tool! This heavy-duty tool is made from a USFS spec fire shovel that features a high carbon steel blade. The head is rotated to a right angle, and the pointed tip is cut off to a 7˝ wide beveled blade to provide a highly effective scraping tool for use on the fireline. Our version varies from typical modifications in the way the handle attaches to the head to create a better balanced tool that is more comfortable and easier to use. This heavy-duty beast also works great for chopping and digging, making it ideal for landscaping applications as well. 38˝ Ash handle. Made in USA.

I have had this rhino for 3 fire seasons here in Idaho and I have used it on many fires. I have named mine Clarice. It is super good in a variety of fuel and soil types. Biggest issue for it is really rocky terrain. It's the perfect hardness for sharpening and holding an edge. It is also very hefty.

I think the 38" handle is too short unless you are willing to bend forward all day? It may be fine for a short job no more than 10 minutes..

It's not going to win a beauty contest. It's literally a shovel that has been chopped apart, then welded back together. And in true Frankenstein fashion this tool is a solid beast! I prefer it over a hoe because its heft makes cutting roots a delightful experience. Plus, it has 3 effective flat edges enabling you to re-shape the earth with ease.
