Markal^® Paintstik “B”

These paint sticks are the go-to for our crews for marking trees. The marks are visible and last much longer than anything comparable. Even after 4-5 years, some remnants of paint markings are still visible on some smooth-barked species. The only downside is they are a little pricey and can be a bit messy to deal with, but purchasing a paint stick holder can help abate that a little bit. Overall, a good product that does what it says and is good value.

Works well, but color is not very vibrant. Hard to see on wet logs

These work very well on smooth to semi-rough bark (poplar to oak), but are difficult to get a good mark on very rough bark (pine). They do break during use. So keeping them in a sandwich bag helps contain the mess. Once the mark is on the trees it is easily visible and seems to be long lasting.
