- What type and size nails do you use to fasten the markers to trees?
- Thank you for your question regarding the Trailite Reflective Arrow Markers, Item #24576. These markers are typically attached to trees using aluminum nails. Aluminum nails are preferred for trail markers because they resist corrosion and are less likely to damage saw blades if the tree is ever cut in the future. One option we offer is the Aluminum Siding Plain Shank Style Aluminum Nails, Item #79285. These nails are 2-1/2˝ long with a 0.120˝ diameter shank and a 3/8˝ diameter head. They are commonly used by the U.S. Forest Service for permanent sample plots and work well for attaching markers to trees. When installing the marker, it is a good idea to leave a small gap between the nail head and the marker so the tree has room to grow without pulling the marker off the nail.
