Really is an essential piece of equipment for forest inventory in the 21st century. My biggest complaint with the setup is the monopod staff. It is essentially worthless for rugged field work; it breaks too easy. I would suggest the deluxe plot center stake that Forestry Suppliers sell instead. And obviously, without the monopod, the case should be shrank to fit the hyposometer and receiver alone.
This is the BEST hypsometer for measuring heights. The combination of sonar and digital inclinometer allows you to measure tree height without a direct sight to the top of the tree(great for dense forest types). And this updated version 5 provides the option to measure several heights of live crown or product spec cut off and send those measurement directly to your phone via Bluetooth. It is expensive but it is worth it if you value your time moving in the woods an collecting accurate data.
