Nel-Spot Dura-Built Tree Marking Gun

Just bought a new one not long ago, and neglected to inspect it closely. Picked it up this evening and felt the trigger pull. The amount of pressure it requires to get the trigger moving is unbelievable. The reason I began looking more closely started after I checked the cost of replacement for the plastic trigger !!!! This stuff is low quality, and the part(s) fitting is abysmal. The trigger is already on the way to self destructing, and I haven't used it for marking. Poor, unacceptable

The gun simply is poorly designed. The trigger pull effort, and angle, adds up to weary joints. It is hard to believe no effort was made to install some type \'screen / filter \' before the intake to cut down on clogging. Unless my paint is brand new it is likely there is much lost time clearing the gun. After a few months the trigger begins to hang when pulled inwards. fully. I\'ve tried changing many of the parts but haven\'t discovered exactly what causes the hang. Yes, a bump will often dislodge the threads. If I have a fall, I know I will have a huge mess to clean. The metal gun did seem to have a better trigger pull but, in all, the other problems were also happening with that model. This could be a good, long lasting and useful gun with just a few tweaks by the manufacturer.

Good basic paint gun. I gave older one to a friend and this is the replacement. Id recommend to anyone.

I agree with the Industrial Forester from PA. I too have lost lots of paint from bumping the gun or can on random things in the woods. The threads just don't hold. I never lost one in 41 years of using the old metal guns. My plastic gun was losing quart cans when it was new without paint buildup anywhere. Reading his review released me from the idea of complaining to the company that my gun was defective. Apparently they are all defective.

I have had no problem with Dura-built gun which has lasted more than 7 years so far of heavy use. A little maintenance goes a long way. Another commenter had issues with the threads. I have found this to be more a problem with the paint can itself, rather than the gun. Make sure there is no build-up of paint around the base of the threads of the can. This can be removed easily with a pocket knife. I also like the Dura-built gun in the winter because it does not get as cold as the old metal guns.

The Nelson Nel-Spot tree marking gun has gone from the best gun on the market to the biggest disappointment on the market. I have used Nelson's metal paint guns (model D-103) for the last 19 yrs. Suddenly Nelson decided to discontinue this model and offer the new light weight (LT-104) The LT-104 is the light weight, all plastic version of their original paint gun. The plastic threads will not stay on the quart paint cans. The gun head separates from the can at the slightest bump. I have wasted 5 quarts of paint in the last week as they fell to the ground while marking timber. Bottom line , do not buy the new Nelson gun, have your old metal gun repaired.
