Description

4” x 36”, Rigid Seedling Protector Tubes, pk. of 250

Constructed of tough yet flexible UV inhibited polyethylene and polypropylene material. These diamond mesh tubes protect young seedlings from nibbling intruders for up to five years. Allow young seedlings to grow and slowly photodegrade once seedlings have grown to a point of establishment. For best results, install tubes at time of planting and cover entire seedling. Allow 10” to 12” of tubing to extend above tree to compensate for later growth and tree top protection. Install optional bamboo stakes with each tube for support. Stakes sold separately.

How many comes in one order...I can't tell from the description. Thanks
The 3-14" and 4" diameter tubes come in packs of 250. The 5" diameter tubes come in a pack of 150.
Do these tubes open up so you can put on and remove from the seedling.
The shelters do not open up. They will photo degrade over time.

We have used these seedling protectors to plant over 200 trees last spring, starting from short seedlings. Most were white pines, sugar maples, service berries and hazelnuts. Each protector was held down with 1 bamboo stake. The plants grew very well, despite being constrained to the small tubes. Some plants grew 5 ft in the first year, although most only grew to less than three feet. The tubes were easily removed over the plants without harming the plants. This year, we replaced the tubes with taller, wire fences. Sometimes deer push the protector off the plant. When some of the plants reached the top of the protector deer would nibble the top off. This year we will protect new plants, but will put in 2 bamboo stakes. Our success rate in taking care of baby trees was 70 - 100%, depending on the type of tree, and location. The protectors seem to last more than one year.

got these to protect against deer damage. They are pretty effective. In my ohio climate thy have lasted over 5 years. I would advise getting the larger diameter one as they are easier to get over a seeding especially if they needled or a more crooked hardwood. trees grow right up through them, sometime at an angle but it hasnt seemed to hurt any of them
